The aim of the event is to provide Members of the European Parliament and officials from the European Commission with up-to-date information on the amphibian extinction crisis.  The conference will give the attendants a broad overview of the global crisis and how European amphibians are being impacted.

The conference will start with an opening by MEP Catherine Bearder.  Following, experts from the broad amphibian conservation community will set the scale of the crisis and its origins. They will present the likely ramifications of a failure to act collectively and will detail how global conservation bodies are coming together under the auspices of the Amphibian Survival Alliance, a new global body based in the EU, to form a coordinated response.

A discussion of how habitat loss and in particular the chytrid fungus are impacting amphibians will be presented, as well as solutions being pioneered by the wild and captive community.  The opportunities for the EU to achieve results in completing the Convention on Biological Diversity 2020 targets will be discussed.

Participants will also receive an information package, documenting the range of threats facing amphibians, the groups coming together under the Amphibian Survival Alliance, and the opportunities for European amphibian conservation that will assist in the EU reaching 2020 targets.
