Mr. Niccolò Rinaldi MEP and Mr. Ivo Vajgl MEP of the ALDE group are convening a two-day conference entitled ‘Dialogue with China – Implementation of the Chinese Constitution to Safeguard and Protect the Rights of the Uyghur People’ at the European Parliament in Brussels on 29-30 April 2010 in collaboration with the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) and the World Uyghur Congress (WUC).

The conference will represent a landmark discussion of ways in which to open a dialogue with Chinese authorities with the aim of supporting the implementation of China’s constitutional protections for nationalities such as the Uyghurs of East Turkestan and the practise of nonviolent political activism.

Academics, legislators and specialists will gather to exchange knowledge and expertise in an atmosphere intended to encourage debate and new ideas.  An invited audience of Uyghur activists and supporters will be a key element of the event and engage in active participation of the conference, organised in cooperation with UNPO (Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization).
