Activists inside Syria confirm that today, in the port of Tartus, Russian Special Forces are unloading military equipment. This means no less than that Russia is sending arms to Syria to help Bashar Al-Assad with his cruel oppression, whilst diplomats are doing everything to reach consensus on a new draft resolution for the UN Security Council.
Guy Verhofstadt, ALDE group leader condemned the shipments:
"Russia is always pressing for a diplomatic solution to end the massacres in Syria and vetoing every UNSC resolution. Now we learn from Syrian activists that Russia sent Special Forces today to deliver military equipment to the Syrian regime. If that is true Russia would be accomplice to the crimes against humanity perpetrated by Syrian President Assad. This is totally unacceptable. We urge the UN to investigate these allegations immediately and demand an explanation from Russia."
