Guy Verhofstadt, the leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament, today has written to European Commission, Vice President, Viviane Reding following her comments on twitter which were widely reported in the media.

He shares her view that an independent judicial system is the basis of democracy and guarantee of human rights and requests the Commission's objective assessment of the current situation in Romania.
