Montenegro must guarantee security for gay pride event

Jelko Kacin, MEP (LDS, Slovenia) has called on the authorities of Montenegro to support and guarantee the security for the first ever Montenegro Gay Pride, which was planned for 31 May, but cancelled due to violent incidents in Podgorica at a Solidarity concert for the LGBT community on Monday evening. A teargas grenade was thrown in during the concert, in which Jelko Kacin participated accompanied by officials also present in Podgorica for the second meeting of the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.

Jelko Kacin, MEP (LDS, Slovenia) has called on the authorities of Montenegro to support and guarantee the security for the first ever Montenegro Gay Pride, which was planned for 31 May, but cancelled due to violent incidents in Podgorica at a Solidarity concert for the LGBT community on Monday evening. A teargas grenade was thrown in during the concert, in which Jelko Kacin participated accompanied by officials also present in Podgorica for the second meeting of the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee.
 
Mr Kacin has used the official meetings with ministers and MPs from Montenegro to stress the importance of promoting tolerance, solidarity and guarantee the security for all kind of minorities and communities, "I have called on the Montenegrin government, state institutions and political parties to give their unequivocal support and assistance to the organisers of the Gay Pride".
 
Earlier this morning Mr Kacin took part in a press conference organised by LGBT Progress, the organisers of the first Gay Pride in Montenegro, now scheduled for the autumn and expressed his determination to take part in the event and to call the Montenegrin government to support the event. Jelko Kacin also succeeded in introducing a call for a safe and successful gay pride in the recommendations from the meeting.
