A major two-day conference on financing a revolution in renewable energy was today convened in the European Parliament by the Climate Parliament, which aims to connect legislators from around the world in order to coordinate efforts to tackle climate change.

The Climate Parliament Forum brings together some 49 MPs from 21 countries around the world, more than 20 MEPs from five different political groups, and leaders from industry, government and NGOs under the Chairmanship of ALDE MEP Graham Watson (Liberal Democrat, UK).

Mr Watson said:
"Climate change is a cross-border challenge that needs like-minded people from parliaments and governments around the world to co-operate and share best practices.
"As part of this Forum, we are calling on the EU and on national governments to put their money where their mouths are and provide adequate funding and financial incentives to renewable energy projects.
"We need to act together if we are going to secure the investment needed to revolutionise our energy supply."

Notes to Editors
The Climate Parliament (www.climateparl.net) is a non-governmental organisation that aims to bring together legislators, experts and citizens from around the world to generate solutions to the problems presented by climate change and our overreliance on fossil-based fuel.
It currently has a database extending to 20,000 legislators and has, since 2007, conducted 20 international parliamentary committee hearings.
The Climate Parliament Forum is taking place at the European Parliament on 26 and 27 May. It is the largest event yet hosted by the organisation, which ordinarily uses the medium of the internet to connect its members.
