Following the overwhelming vote on the EP resolution on Libya, Guy Verhofstadt, ALDE President made the following statement:

"The European Parliament has today sent a very clear and united message to the European Council this Friday that they must recognise the National Transitional Council.  This is essential in order to provide the necessary support that will enable the democratic transition in Libya.

"Following the recognition of the National Transitional Council  today by France and the vote in the Parliament, the Member States must face up to their responsibilities and do the same tomorrow"
