ALDE MEP Hans van Baalen (VVD, Netherlands) has been re-elected for a second term of 18 months as President of Liberal International during the 57th Congress of LI in the Philippine capital Manila. 

At the same event Hans van Baalen received the Friedrich-Naumann-Medal for freedom for his fight for human rights and civil liberties and his firm leadership of LI, according to Wolfgang Gerhardt, President of the Friedriech-Naumann-Foundation and Member of the German Bundestag, who presented him the Medal for 2011 personally. 

The 2010 Friedrich-Naumann-Medal went to South African regional Prime Minister Helen Zille for her fight against Apartheid and for winning the elections in Capetown and the Western Cape Province as a clear liberal and non-ethnic alternative for ANC.
